History

Over a century of family winegrowing tradition

It was in 1967 that Erna and Jean, heirs to a line of winegrowers in Mittelbergheim, sealed their destiny by celebrating their union. Domaine Hirtz was born.

From then on, the eldest son of this marriage, Edy, naturally gravitated towards the family terroir. In 1987, he joined the family business, which then covered 4.4 hectares of mixed farming. But his vocation was clear, and his path was already mapped out. In 1989, the first bottles bearing the Hirtz seal saw the light of day, marking the start of an exciting winemaking adventure.

The years went by and in 1994, Edy joined forces with Elisabeth. Three children were born of this union: Michel, Stéphane and Olivier. In 1996, Elisabeth in turn decided to join the family business, bringing her own touch and dedication to this fast-growing wine estate.

A new stage was reached in 2002, when Domaine Hirtz made the bold decision to devote itself exclusively to growing vines and making wine, abandoning maturing for good. This marked a new era, a renaissance focused on the land and the grape.

The future looked bright when, after studying wine-making and marketing, Michel joined the family business in 2014. Followed in 2018 by Stéphane, the siblings embody the fusion between tradition and innovation, between heritage and new aspirations.

In 2020, the family’s commitment to the environment and biodiversity was confirmed with the award of H.E.V. (High Environmental Value) certification. This recognition seals the ecological approach of the estate and strengthens its links with nature.

Today, Domaine Hirtz covers 13 hectares. The Hirtz family lovingly cultivates the emblematic grape varieties of Alsace. Each bottle tells a story of passion, tradition and innovation, carefully woven over generations. The vines, the hands and the hearts come together to produce exceptional wines!

The members of the family who work on the estate are delighted to welcome you and share their passion for vines and wine.
